A salesperson says "lifetime warranty," you sign, and then a leak shows up three years later and suddenly nobody wants to pay for it. The problem usually isn't that you were lied to. • Prorated vs. non-prorated — most material warranties are non-prorated for an early window (often the first 10-15 years), meaning full coverage. After that they become prorated — the payout shrinks each year based on the age of the roof, because the shingles have already given you years of service.
• Defect only — it covers manufacturing defects, not wind, hail, foot traffic, or bad installation.
